Abstract:

The question of "how fanners become townspeople" tends to be regarded as a part of the issue of "urbanization". This paper, viewing the question from another angle, takes urban sociology as a basic paradigm. It tries to explain those problems confronted by the farmers who are in the process of becoming townspeople through a study of the property difference between farmers and townspeople, the change of people' s life consciousness and way of life, and the consciousness of urban residents. This may help us to have a better understanding of modernization of Chinese society.
