Abstract:
Established in 1912, the Provisional Senate of the Republic of China was one of the most significant symbols for the victory of the Revolution of 1911 overthrowing the Qing Dynasty. Compared with the contemporary parliamentary system in the West, the Provisional Senate was not mature and had many flaws. In the perspective of the transition of Chinese society it undeniably stands as a milestone of the transition of Chinese political system. It made great efforts to consolidate the newly - born bourgeois regime, that is, the Provisional Nanjing Government of the Republic of China, to defend the achievement of democratic republic, and to ensure the final establishment of the bourgeois democratic political system in China.
Key words: the Revolution of 1911, Provisional Senate, senator, presidential government
