ZHU Xi made a comprehensive exploration and summing - up of his methodology for reading and interpreting Chinese classics. One of his experiences was called "jia qia. " It means that when we interpret classical literature, we must first have a thorough understanding of it, and then we can combine our understanding with our practice. In other words, we may use our understanding to guide our practice and use our practice to confirm our understanding. In this way we may have an intensive experience on all the arguments about certain classical literature, and we may reach an ideal state in which our body and mind are in perfect harmony. These are ZHU Xi's experience on his scholarship and as well an important aspect when we make a study of his reading and interpreting classics.
