从“了”的英译看汉语的时体问题

摘要：

通过对11位现代中国经典作家的14篇散文中“了”字的英译进行穷尽性研究, 可得出以下结论; 1)“了”字有表时的因素, 也有表完成体的因素, 但其比例都不足以说明其是“时标志”或“完成体标志”; 2)“了”在表“完成”的意义上, 与其说是个语法手段, 不如说是个词汇手段; 3)“了”表“实现”义的说服力比表“完成”义要强, 但是要承认这是一种“体标志”仍有困难。

Abstract:

This paper adopts a Chinese - English contrastive method for a study of Chinese grammar. To examine whether there is tense and aspect in Chinese, it selects 14 essays from 11 most influential Chinese writers and makes an exhaustive study of all the words of "le" which appear in them and their various expressions in English translations. It thus provides some purely objective and therefore useful figures for a further study of the topic. This paper also makes a few suggestions concerning a methodology for studying Chinese grammar.
