Abstract:
SHENG Xuan-huai was a very complex historical figure in the modern history of China. SHENG was a great collector of books at the end of the Qing Dynasty. He set up Yuzhai library, editing, carving and printing books. He collected the inscriptions from ancient bronzes and stone tablest, including collection paintings and calligraphy. This paper traces the activities and achievements of SHENG by introducing the establishment of Yuzhai library, the origin and the development of its collections, its catalogue, and the scattering of its collections.
