Abstract: In the process of accepting Marxism, the early Chinese Marxists were greatly influenced by their own knowledge structure and the problems of the times. Correspondingly, this kind of influence made their interpretation of Marxism form a kind of Chinese expression differing from the classic texts of Marxism. As one of the founders of the Chinese Communist Party, LI Da-zhao typically went through such a process. What was the impact of LI Da-zhao's people-oriented consciousness, as well as its derived ideas such as populism, nationalism and social responsibility, on his acceptance and interpretation of Marxism? How do they interact with each other? Further analysis and discussion of these issues will be conducive to a deeper understanding of LI Da-zhao's intellectual transformation before and after the May 4th Movement and the concrete ideological starting point of the spread of Marxism in China.
