Abstract:

The quantifier is one of key conceps in logic, especially in modern logic. It always plays an important role in logical analysis and linguistical analysis. Many people think it is Frege who first provided the significance of quantifier in modern logic. However, the thorough investigation into the earlier period of modern logic suggests that Peirce even provide a clearer and more profound comprehension and representation. He gave both algebraic and graphic representations of quantifier, and placed properly quantifiers in the context of semiotics.

Key words: Peirce, quantifier, semiotics, index, algebra of logic, existential graphs, line of identity
