Abstract:
In the study of the famous scholar CHEN Yin-que during the 90s a lot of researchers expressed their different interpretations of his assertion of "independent ideology and free spirit". Some often knowingly or unknowingly interpreted the "academic independence" expressed in CHEN's "independent ideology and free spirit" as the "academic standard". Through making an analysis of the "academic independence" and "academic standard", the author points out that the "academic independence" in Professor CHEN's thought is different from the "academic standard" in the sense of the Western theory of knowledge. Apart from his intensive and profound academic knowledge, we can see his intense spirit of realistic and ultimate concern. Also, the "independent ideology and free spirit" is different from the "learning for the sake of learning" in the West.
