Abstract:
The area of Jiang Xi adjoined the area of Jiang Nan. Such a convenient location made them maintain a close economic connection with each other, complementing each other in economy during the period of the Ming and Qing dynasties. The trade route through the Dayu Mountains was very important for foreign trade for a long time during the Qing Dynasty. However, it was noneconomic if viewed from the angle of economics. It was just an outcome of the administrative restriction of foreign trade, especially an outcome under the policy of only - one - commercial - port of the Qing government. The close market connection between Jiang Xi and Jiang Nan did not reflect the real development of commodity e-conomy in Jiang Xi. The prosperous transit trade in the area of Jiang Xi owed much to the economic policy of the government.
Key words: the Jiang Nan area, the Jiang Xi area, transit trade
