Abstract: Through discussing Rotry’s pragmatist epistemology and ethics, this thesis examines the reason why Rotry’s anti-essential ethics is always labeled as relativism, and how he responds to this critique. Moreover, the thesis further discusses the issue that the virtue ethics is labeled as relativism as well. This critique is of no significance since it is built on essentialism.
